Introducing Our Lung Cancer Nodule Program
While lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death across the globe, early detection of the disease can significantly improve outcomes.
This is the goal of the Lung Docs’ new Lung Cancer Nodule Program.
Every Wednesday, Dr. Mike provides hospital patients with specialized care for early detection and management of lung nodules. The program offers advanced imaging, expert evaluation, and personalized monitoring to identify potential issues before they become serious. Early detection through the program increases treatment options and improves outcomes.
PROCEDURES OFFERED
Dr. Mike performs robotic procedures involving everything from early cancer detection to lung biopsies to removing fluid around the lungs.
Robotic Bronchoscopy
For patients with lung masses or lung nodules, Dr. Mike offers robotic bronchoscopy.
Robotic bronchoscopy utilizes real-time 3D imaging and advanced navigation systems to hide a robotic scope to precisely locate and biopsy suspicious nodules in the lungs. Dr. Mike uses this system to navigate the lungs with high accuracy, allowing him to remove a small tissue sample for testing.
This minimally invasive approach improves diagnostic accuracy, reduces recovery time, and offers less discomfort than traditional methods, helping Dr. Mike detect and treat lung cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages. It’s a proactive, life-saving option for peace of mind and better health.
Thoracentesis
If you have pleural effusion — or a buildup of too much fluid between the layers of your pleura around your lungs — Dr. Mike can perform a thoracentesis to have the fluid removed.
This simple procedure can help you breathe easier. It’s often used to treat symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, and coughing caused by pleural effusion. Many patients feel relief almost immediately after the procedure.
Thoracentesis is also helpful for diagnosing underlying conditions, as the fluid is tested to find the cause.
These conditions include:
• Infections such as pneumonia or tuberculosis
• Cancer, including lung cancer or metastatic cancer affecting the lungs.
• Heart failure, which can cause fluid buildup in the pleural space
• Pulmonary embolism, or a blockage in the lung’s blood vessels
• Liver or kidney disease, which can lead to fluid accumulation in the chest
• Inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus
Performed with local anesthesia, thoracentesis is a safe, quick way to improve your comfort and health.
