How to Choose a Pulmonologist

If you experience ongoing shortness of breath, persistent cough, chest pain, wheezing, or frequent lung infections — and these symptoms last for weeks or worsen — you might have an underlying lung condition that requires specialized evaluation and treatment from an expert pulmonologist like Dr. Michael Czarnecki of the Lung Docs.

Pulmonologists provide care for patients with bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, COPD, and a wide range of other respiratory conditions.

If you have respiratory-related symptoms, or were just diagnosed with lung disease, it’s important to find a pulmonologist who will be the right fit for you.

Consider these factors:

1. Credentials and Certification: Verify that the pulmonologist is board-certified and has advanced training in pulmonary procedures.

2. Hospital Affiliation: Confirm that the pulmonologist is affiliated with reputable hospitals or medical centers known for high-quality pulmonary care.

3. Experience: Choose a pulmonologist with extensive preventive care experience, as well as extensive experience treating advanced respiratory conditions — especially any you might be facing.

4. Track Record: Seek recommendations for pulmonologists from your primary care physician or trusted sources. Read patient reviews, and avoid any physicians with a history of malpractice claims or disciplinary actions.

5. Communication Style: Select a pulmonologist who listens to your concerns, explains treatment options clearly, involves you in decision-making, and ensures you're comfortable with your care.
